Festival of DESS

As soon as you stepped foot into the school grounds that Monday morning, you could tell it was a very special week. Pride of place at the front gate was our DESS Museum. Showcasing precious mementos from the school's history and providing a unique opportunity for the community to explore and gain insight into days gone by, it was a fabulous experience for all.

The array of items in the museum, ranging from red shoes and signed shirts to teacher Top Trumps and thirty-year-old report cards, was a testament to the generosity of our alumni and staff. Supported by a wealth of old photos and videos, as well as class visits from former DESS pupils, the children had an immersive experience, delving into DESS's rich history throughout the entire week.

Our Party Day extravaganza was the perfect conclusion. Having special guests like many alumni, the first Headteacher of DESS; Mr. Harry Atkinson JP, and Rhona Pyrke, Alison Wakefield, and Elizabeth Smith; the daughters of Mr. Eric Tulloch, one of the DESS founders, added an extremely meaningful touch to the day. Identifying people in photos synonymous with DESS’s past was quite a highlight for all and the opportunity for the alumni to catch up, reminisce and tour the school grounds that they once knew so well was fabulously moving. As with any good old party the day was also filled with party games, delicious food, presents, and cake, creating lasting memories for everyone involved.

A special thanks to Antisocial Skate Co, Magrudy’s, Spinneys, and the Karani family for their unwavering support, contributing to the success of our Party Day with their thoughtful gifts and cakes. The collaborative effort of the entire community made this celebration truly special, showcasing the enduring spirit and connection that make DESS a remarkable place.
